Designed to absorb and diffuse sound waves using the Helmholtz resonator principles, it is ideally suited for buildings such as schools, public halls, theatres and sports arenas, but can also be used to control noise in plant rooms, factories and along roads and railways to form sound barriers. Colinwell Supply Architectural Masonry to new 100 million GBP Bombardier Aircraft Factory Date Posted: 14/12/2009 11:38:52 Bombardiers construction of their new CSeries aircraft factory, which started in October. The new factory will house the manufacturing and assembly process for wings for a new revolutionary commercial aircraft called the CSeries. The building has dramatic proportions with a floor area of 72318 SqM. The external Architectural Masonry Blocks used were Colinwells Whinstone Smooth, Split Faced and Split Fluted. Joint Managing Director Phelim McQuillan explains that this new Bombardier factory is the largest building project currently underway in Belfast. Peter Raises Profile of Colinwell Retaining Wall Solutions Date Posted: 29/06/2009 12:40:29 With the onset of summer (what summer I here you ask!) Peter Gough, who joined Colinwell as Sales Manager of Allan Block Retaining Wall Systems, is raising the profile of the Allan Block Retaining Wall range both in the domestic market and in the Republic, last year. Peter spent 5 days at the Allan Block University in Minneapolis on its retaining wall course and has been introducing the concept of the AB Courtyard Collection, a mortarless system to deliver creative double faced landscape wall solutions for vertical walls. "With a distinct texture offering a classic cut-stone look it is a way in which the lightweight interlocking blocks are to handle and simply stack up which is the major attraction for the product" suggests Peter Colinwell Supplies Largest Segmental Retaining Wall in Great Britain Date Posted: 29/06/2009 12:35:33 In September 2007 Colinwell began supplying a new project at a new Asda distribution centre in Chepstow, south Wales. It was the largest to date segmental wall to have been built in Britain and some 60,000 wall blocks were manufactured at Colinwells site in Dunmurry (for pictures see projects). Joint Managing Director Phelim McQuillan explains that the Chepstow project proved that the size of the job and distance to the market does not pose a problem for the family owned company which has been in business since 1888. "Our experience for manufacturing product for this contract and organising the delivery of over 70 loads to the site leaves us confident to tackle anything anywhere" Allan Block was chosen for the Chepstow project because it offered an aesthetically pleasing, cost effective method of building a large retaining wall and particularly as it allowed on site earth to be redistributed and used as a backfill material to the wall. Apart from the blocks and geogrid required to reinforce the earth behind the wall and a small amount of stone, for forming the wall foundation and drainage layer behind it, no other materials had to be imported onto site to construct the wall which averaged 8 metres in height over 750 metres of its length. "In such challenging economic times" Mr McQuillan adds "we all have to reassess how we do things and Allanblock offers a more sustainable approach to the age old problem or forming retaining walls which have become increasingly important in developing land efficiently.
